Transformers Spark Fire At KARE 11: Details Inside

This afternoon, a Minnesota-based television station caught fire forcing the employees inside to evacuate, and then turned around to report the fire. The main 5pm news team was not at the station at the time of the fire, and was prepared to broadcast the 5pm news from what appeared to be some sort of pressbox, but was really a studio at the tower site.

KARE 11 Evacuated After Building Catches Fire

The Golden Valley broadcaster, KARE 11, caught fire this afternoon at around 1:30pm, after what is believed to be a transformer malfunction outside, leading to the evacuation, and then subsequent coverage of the fire by their news team.

KARE reported that employees inside could hear explosions shortly after the power went out, as well as smell smoke.

Jana Shortal ended up reporting on the fire, which was then shared to social media.

News Anchor Was Prepared To Broadcast From Anywhere

Julie Nelson, the top anchor at KARE, shared a social media post where it appeared she was preparing to broadcast the 5pm news from what looked like initially what you would see from a baseball pressbox. It wasn't however, a pressbox, but a view from the station's tower site.

While it appeared Julie was inside what looked like a pressbox at a park, she was indeed at the TV stations tower site, located in the Twin Cities North Suburban town of Shoreview.

KARE-11 Will Be Back For The 10pm Newscast

In another social media post from the television station, the newscast for 10pm will air, from presumably the tower site, after technical issues prevented the broadcasts at 5 and 6pm.
