Fridley, MN (KROC-AM News)- A police officer in the Twin Cities was taken to a hospital after intervening in a fight that was occurring at a school. 

That’s according to a news release issued Thursday evening by the Fridley Department of Public Safety. The physical altercation occurred Thursday afternoon. 

A School Resource Officer assigned to Fridley High School requested backup after responding to what was initially reported as a disturbance in the parking lot shortly after 3 p.m.

The disturbance was a fight involving two students. A bystander, who was not involved in the initial allocation, kicked the officer in the head on purpose and caused the officer severe harm, the news release says.

The officer was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was reported to have been in stable condition as of Thursday night

Police say the bystander who kicked the officer has been arrested. The individuals involved in the after school fight have also been apprehended. 

The names of the arrestees and the officer have not been released. Fridley Police say the incident is under investigation.
