According to the criminal complaint filed in December 2022, the couple allegedly wrote checks out to themselves from the victim's bank accounts that totaled just over $125,000. They claimed the money had been spent on cleaning up and fixing up the victim's home, but they were unable to provide any invoices or other documentation.

The court documents indicate an Olmsted County investigator began looking into the situation in January 2022 after receiving a vulnerable adult maltreatment report concerning an 81-year-old man who had been living in a secure memory care facility in Rochester for over two years. The report involved suspicions that the couple had been making cash withdrawals from ATMs and cashing checks that were not in the victim's best interest.

The charges stated that Colleen Silverling-Keigher had been granted Power of Attorney for the elderly man. She is scheduled to be sentenced in August.
