Jayme Closs Releases Statement One Year After Kidnapping

Jayme Closs is opening up. One year after her abduction, the teen has given an exclusive statement on her recovery to ABC News.

Here's what she had to say in the statement, which was released on Monday morning (October 14th):

I really want to thank everyone for all the kindness and concern that people all over the country have shown me. I am very happy to be home and getting back to the activities that I enjoy. I love hanging out with all of my friends, and I feel stronger every day!

According to ABC News' report, the teen has "taken day trips to hiking trails with her friends and her aunts, and has enjoyed celebrating weddings and birthdays with her family."

Jayme, who was 13 years old at the time, was kidnapped from her home in Barron, Wisconsin on October 15th of last year. Her parents were found dead in the family home.

After being held in captivity for nearly three months in Gordon, she escaped her kidnapper and ran to safety. Shortly after, Jake Patterson was arrested and is now in prison for life without parole for the kidnapping and double murder.

The story made national news immediately and continues to do so after the horrific events, due in part to Jayme's incredible courage and heroism. She's been featured on the cover of People Magazine, been the topic of many news magazines, had a performance dedicated to her on The Voice and won a major award in May.
