Minnesota Government E-Bike Rebate Registration Website Crashes On Opening Day
In 2023, the Minnesota Legislature passed an e-bike rebate program that would allow Minnesotans to get a rebate of up to 75% off the price of a new e-bike. That program will offer residents to apply for a voucher that is being funded by a limited pool of money in 2024 and again in 2025.
As the program kicked off with registration opening to the public at 11 am on Wednesday, June 5, things have gotten off to a rocky start.
I visited the website right away at 11 am, greeted by an error message saying "Sorry to interrupt. This page has an error. You might just need to refresh it.
In doing so, another error message popped up, saying the site is temporarily unavailable.

Trying again in bit, as instructed by the message above resulted in another error.
Trying to refresh one more time led to a spinning wheel. I was eventually able to get into the area to start to enter my information.
Advancing to the next page, I got the same errors I got earlier in the process. Ope.
The program is clearly pretty popular, with only a limited number of people being issued vouchers this summer and another limited number being issued once again next summer, funded by a $2 million pool of money in 2024 and another pool of $2 million in 2025.
The rush of Minnesotans trying to get their voucher clearly overwhelmed the Minnesota Department of Revenue's website, which has been bogged down, throwing errors for the first hour of registration, when this article was published.
The Department of Revenue acknowledged the issue on social media, apologizing for the issue, and saying they are working to fix it.
