The Gales of November have come early as days of constant rain coupled with very strong winds today have caused flooding, road closures and power outages.
Like many Twin Ports residents we had a flooded basement because of the storm, but our basement flooded because of our garage. In the 6 years that we have lived in our house, we have never even had a drop of water in our basement. (Knock on wood) But, we also have not been there with 9 inches of rain all falling at once.
Between 7 and 9 inches of rain fell on the Twin Ports in less than 24 hours; leading to devastating damage to homes, businesses, and roads that will take weeks, if not months to fully recover. Here is a taste of what was captured through the day as the cleanup began.
While snow is known to close roads, schools, and businesses; rain almost never causes the problems we've seen in the Northland in the past day. What if the precipitation over the past day has actually fallen during the winter? How much snow would all of the rain we've gotten translate to?
