Watch CNN Get Concerned Over Minnesota’s Monthly Siren Test
Living in Minnesota, you get used to the siren test that occurs at 1:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month. In fact, ever since I can remember, I've always screamed "Run for your lives!" when the siren blares each month at that time. It doesn't matter if I'm at work, with the kids, ordering at a drive-thru, at church, it's just my thing and at least twice a year someone laughs. Worth it!
However, this monthly Minnesota tradition is no laughing matter if you don't expect it and you happen to be in Minneapolis covering the Derek Chauvin trial for CNN in a very tense, high-security environment. Add rainy, stormy weather to that scenario and you can't blame the CNN broadcast team for showing a considerable amount of concern when this occurred on Wednesday, April 7.
You can see that scenario play out below with CNN's Josh Campbell reporting from Minneapolis. After it happened, many were quick to share and comment on it over social media.
"Josh, hang on a second, I just need to make sure you're okay," said anchor Brooke Baldwin. "Forgive me for being that person, but I'm going to take you off the TV, I'm going to make sure you're okay, whatever's going on around you is okay, we're going to timeout, I promise I'll bring you back."
