This is incredibly scary and a great reminder to always be aware of your surroundings.

According to KARE 11 News out of Minneapolis, there was an attempted abduction in the area Sunday (March 1st) evening. The attempt occurred near the University of Minnesota campus.

The report says the incident happened around 6 p.m. near the area of 8th Avenue Southeast. The suspect is described as bald, standing 5 feet 7 inches and in his 40s. He was wearing a black shirt at the time of the attempted abduction.

The University Of Minnesota Department of Public Safety issued an alert after the attempted abduction, reporting that the suspect tried to grab the victim from behind.

A glance at the most recent alerts sent out by the department shows another attempted kidnapping in mid-February.

The department offers up some tips on their website on how to stay safe on campus, and it can be applied to any area: be aware and not distracted while you're walking, limit the amount of valuables you carry around and enter buildings alone.
