Animal Allies Humane Society in Duluth continues to process of recovering after significant flooding from a burst pipe at their facility on January 17.

As we explained earlier this week, a few different areas of the shelter sustained significant water damage to their humane education room and administrative offices.

In addition to those spaces sustaining water damage, equipment and supplies were also impacted. A number of supplies for their youth camps and activities, a projector screen, a laptop, a cart full of electronics, Zoom camera, window shades, their entire phone conference and projector system, and their items were damaged by the water.

Thankfully, the area where the adoptable pets are did not sustain flooding damage. The shelter has reiterated on a few occasions that all of the animals are safe and comfortable and the shelter continues to operate, albeit in a modified capacity while they deal with the cleanup and recovery process.

The team at Animal Allies has received an outpouring of support in the wake of this flooding, with a lot of people donating supplies to the point where they are asking the public to slow down on those kinds of donations. They said their garage is nearly full of supplies, so they asked Thursday for anyone looking to provide assistance to donate money or adopt pets in the shelter as the best ways to help.

In a social media update on Thursday, Animal Allies shared that community members had donated over $3,000, though they faced a $10,000 deductible for their insurance.

Then, on Friday (January 24), Animal Allies shared that a Twin Ports area business had made a considerable financial donation.

While going in to take care of some vehicle-related business at Krenzen, the auto dealership also donated $10,000 to cover the deductible. Animal Allies explained that this means the other money donated by the public "will help with unexpected costs/losses that pop up down the road; or even better…right to the animals!"

Representatives from the shelter shared their gratitude to both Krenzen and the public for the support provided in the week since the flooding damaged the shelter.
