Broadway Shows Returning to Minnesota This Fall
Just as the actual Broadway in New York is planning to reopen this fall, touring Broadway shows are also hitting the road and making stops in Minnesota.
The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul announced the schedule for their upcoming Broadway @ the Ordway series, which will make its return after a 500-day hiatus with the classic Broadway production, 'Fiddler on the Roof', that production will run November 30th - December 12th.
'Summer: The Donna Summer Musical' featuring more than 20 of her greatest hits will wrap-up 2021 with a run December 28th - January 2nd. The first production of 2022 will be an adaptation of the Oscar-winning film 'An Officer and a Gentleman' and is scheduled for January 20th - 23rd. 'Waitress' features music from the singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles and will run March 8th - 13th.
Subscription tickets for the shows are on sale now, but if you just want to go see one of the shows, single show tickets will go on sale June 29th.
Hennepin Theatre Trust in Minneapolis has already announced several rescheduled shows that were cancelled early in the pandemic including 'Frozen', 'Hamilton', 'Oklahoma!', 'Pretty Woman: The Musical', and more. This season of shows are scheduled to start in October and some tickets are still available for many of them.
As someone who has always enjoyed a good Broadway production, I think Ordway Producing Artistic Director Rod Kaats says it best, "Knowing that the Ordway’s beautiful bright lights will be back on for Broadway shows, especially after a year when so many experienced pain, suffering and loss, fills my heart with hope."
