Chance The Rapper: 'Minnesota Is The One State Fair To Play'

One of this year's performances at the Minnesota State Fair Grandstand will be unlike all of the rest for a couple of cool reasons.

While the most obvious guesses might be the comedy show from Nate Bargatze, the amateur talent show, or the Kidz Bop Live performance being they are unlike the rest of the music performances at the grandstand, there's another show I'm talking about.

Arguably the most special show at the 2024 Minnesota State Fair Grandstand

On the second night of the Minnesota State Fair, Chicago-based musician Chance the Rapper is scheduled to hit the Grandstand stage.

What's so special about that? A few things, actually!

The first is that unlike the other acts performing at the grandstand, Chance the Rapper isn't on a tour, just making another stop.

As a matter of fact, Chance the Rapper hasn't done a major show at all in 2024, and he doesn't have any other shows on his schedule for this year. None at all.

Seriously, visit his website. All it says about upcoming dates is "I'm having a show in Minnesota on Aug 23 and you should come". No other dates on the calendar.

Pretty cool that he picked Minnesota for his only big show so far this year, right?

Now, Chance the Rapper has done a couple of small shows in his hometown of Chicago and a couple of small pop-up multimedia events at art museums this year, but that's it.

He's been working hard on a new (yet-to-be-completed) project called "Star Line Gallery”. The new project doesn't have a release date, but he does have some songs completed as he continues to work on it.

In an interview with the Star Tribune, Chance the Rapper shared that he plans to share a few songs from the new album during his Minnesota State Fair performance, which makes this only big show on his calendar even more exciting!

So, why the Minnesota State Fair?

While he didn't specifically say why he wanted his only big show on the calendar this year to be a state fair, he did say why he picked the Minnesota State Fair.

In the interview with the Star Tribune, Chance commented about performing at the Great Minnesota Get-Together, acknowledging its huge reputation nationwide. He said “I hear it’s the state fair. Texas has a big one, too. But if you are going to play a state fair, Minnesota is the one to play, right?”

He's not wrong. Obviously Minnesotans love their fair, but people come from all over the country because of how awesome the Great Minnesota Get-Together is.

This will be his second time performing at the Minnesota State Fair, last here in 2013 as an opening act for Macklemore back in 2013.

Prior to that performance, Chance the Rapper did a show in Minneapolis in 2012 that also included a backstage interview with none other than Lizzo for Greenroom Magazine.

When is he performing?

Chance the Rapper will be performing on the second night of this year's Minnesota State Fair. His show is Friday, August 23 at 7 pm and tickets are still available for the show.
