The Yellowjacket Union at UWS has a remarkable roof that most don't see.

The "green roof" is covered in 8-10 different varieties of sedum plants which, depending on the time of the year, can bloom into four different colors. Right now the roof is a bright yellow and green.

According to UWS, "a green roof is a thin layer of soil mixture and plants that cover a building's roof instead of conventional roofing materials. It's environmentally friendly because it reduces rainwater run-off, adds a layer of insulation that reduces heating and cooling costs, and extends the life of the roof."

Driving by UWS on Belknap or on Catlin you may never see this roof, it is only visible when you walk around the campus.
