I can't tell you how many times in the last few months I've seen someone pulled over in this section of Superior. Speeding must be a big problem, as enforcement has been cracking down and new radar devices have been installed.

It's probably for a good reason, too. The stretch of road I'm referring to goes through the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus. It's along Catlin Avenue in Superior, between Belknap Street at N 19th Street.

There are multiple crosswalks for pedestrians to cross Catlin Avenue, and the speed limit in the area is only 15 miles per hour. There have been signal lights around the speed limit for some time, but recently they've added in flashing blue and red lights that will activate if you are speeding.

In some cases, they do activate by picking up traffic on Belknap Street. Just be sure to remember to slow way down if you enter the area. 15 miles per hour is really slow, and it's super easy to be going 5 to 10 mph over without even realizing it.

Remember also that you are required to stop at crosswalks for students and other pedestrians crossing Catlin Avenue. (That also applies to any other crosswalk on city streets, in case you didn't know.)

The University of Wisconsin Superior has its own police department that has been in charge of serving and protecting the University. Their office is right on the corner of Belknap Street and Catlin Avenue. Their patrol car is clearly marked, and the officers wear uniforms.

If you're like me, and find yourself with a bit of a lead foot, just plan a different route and avoid the ticket.
