The Best Breakfast Burrito I’ve Ever Had Was At An Unexpected Northern Minnesota Shop

I love a good burrito. But, who doesn't? Breakfast burrito? Even better!

I recently had what might just be the best breakfast burrito I've ever had, and it was at a place the average person wouldn't suspect in the first place to be a breakfast destination in the Duluth area.

Breakfast burritos are kind of like pizza and a few other things in life - even the not-so-great ones are still pretty good. The thing about most breakfast burritos is that they are pretty similar. Eggs, cheese, meat, maybe some veggies, salsa. Generally pretty good. But this particular burrito definitely stands out in the crowd.

Where is this magical breakfast burrito from?

Earlier this week, I popped in to the new Chilly Billy's shop in the Mount Royal Center - where the Vanilla Bean restaurant used to be. They recently moved from just down the street, making the decision to add a brunch menu to grow their offerings beyond frozen yogurt.

I know what you're thinking - breakfast burrito from a frozen yogurt shop...really?

They're taking this brunch thing pretty seriously, with a pretty extensive menu of stuff that looks pretty amazing. The shop's general manager told me she and her team put a lot of effort into coming up with delicious and unique spins on breakfast classics. Take, for example, a top-your-own Dutch waffles option, where you can use the frozen yogurt toppings to dress up your waffles, or even pancakes!

I opted for the breakfast burrito, and it was a 10 out of 10. Here's what made it so good.

The "Billy's Burrito" is no joke!

First things first, this thing is pretty sizable. The burrito and and side of breakfast potatoes (you can also get hash browns or fruit) took care of my big lunchtime appetite after not getting much of a breakfast earlier in the day.

The burrito comes with scrambled eggs, homemade pineapple salsa, cotija cheese, and a choice of meat. The meat options include bacon, ham, pork or chicken sausage, or Gochujang honey bacon - which is an additional cost, but is so worth it.

I clearly opted for the Gochujang honey bacon, and the flavor combination was incredible! Some sweet, some heat, and I did add some Chachos Tacos Bandito sauce (which they have available at Chilly Billy's) to add just a little more to an already amazing dish.

The flavor profile for this thing comes together really well, offering just a touch of spice and the right amount of sweetness to a well-rounded breakfast classic that is served in a healthy portion.
