The City of Duluth issued a statement today recommending that the public stays off the Lakewalk due to very icy conditions.

The city says, "The fierce winds have covered the trail (boardwalk and paved sections), benches and large boulders with thick layers of ice in addition to gravel and other debris that may have been pushed inland."

To make things even more difficult, the snow that fell through the overnight covered much of the ice, making conditions even more dangerous.

The conditions were so dangerous yesterday that the city closed the parking near the Lake Superior Maritime Center.

The city is asking that you stay inside and watch various live cams around Canal Park instead of heading there yourself.
