Melissa La Tour, the Executive Director for the Homegrown Music Festival announced on their website and Facebook page, the 23rd annual local music celebration was not going to be live.

This is another blow to the venues who saw the music festival canceled last year. Here's what Melissa had to say:

In response to the Center for Disease Control COVID-19 mitigation recommendations to limit large gatherings, and in the interest of public health and safety, Homegrown Music Festival has made the decision that any Festival programming will be virtual for the 2021 year, including our upcoming Winter Fiasco on January 22nd. Visit www.duluthhomegrown.org for all programming details.

Homegrown will continue to be a presence in the Twin Ports community and will live up to its mission of supporting the local music and arts scene while navigating through the ongoing pandemic.

The Festival staff is grateful for our fans and our community, and we consider the health and safety of everyone to be our top priority. Thank you for supporting the Homegrown Music Festival as we enter our 23rd year.

Now that the festival is online, this puts pressure on the musicians to have some good home recordings on film, and will probably be a nightmare to put it together, but, I applaud the festival for keeping it going and supporting local music. This is a giant way to check out what music is doing and take in some of the bigger bands. Last year when it had to be canceled I was sad for the city and for the musicians.

Melissa also covered how the upcoming WINTER FIASCO will be handled as well. The two events will be internet-based. The Winter Fiasco will take place on January 22nd, and was supposed to be held at Sir Ben's, The Blacklist, The Rex, and Pizza Luce, but as of now will be virtual according to the letter published on the Homegrown website.

Duluth Homegrown Music Festival says to visit their website and Facebook page for updates and schedules.
