Essentia Health is in the process of transforming its downtown Duluth medical campus with their project called Vision Northland.

According to Essentia, they are investing $900 million to construct a replacement for St. Mary’s Medical Center and clinic space as well as renovate existing buildings on its downtown Duluth campus. The project will build a total of 942,000 square feet of new space.

The end result promises to match Essentia’s facilities with how medicine is practiced in the 21st century and bring the highest quality health care to patients.

Vision Northland represents a major investment in Essentia Health’s mission as well as the future of Duluth and surrounding areas. The project demonstrates Essentia Health’s commitment to the health of its patients, the economic vitality of the community, and the work environment for its staff.

In July, Essentia temporarily closed the skywalk connecting a city parking ramp to the Essentia Health-Duluth Clinic First Street Building. The temporary closure was necessary for construction crews to complete work on the skywalk as part of their Vision Northland project.

Good news arrived late last week as Essentia Health was pleased to announce they would be reopening that skywalk on Monday, October 24.

According to their news release, patients with appointments in the First Street Building can use the skywalk to access the clinic from the city’s Medical District ramp once again. The temporary pathway between the two locations will now close.

Essentia also thanked all of their patients and visitors for their understanding while navigating our campus as construction in the area continues.
