Florence + the Machine Reveal Cathartic, Monochromatic ‘Sky Full of Song’ Video (WATCH)
Florence Welch grows weary of hiding from the inevitable in "Sky Full of Song," Florence + the Machine's latest audio-visual offering.
On Thursday (April 12), the English indie rock collective debuted a celestial tune that may serve as an early sound symbol of what the group has invented for their fourth studio album, possibly titled As High as Hope — it's rumored to release this June.
"I thought I was flying but maybe I'm dying tonight," Welch, the troupe's angelic frontwoman, sings over a bridge as rippling and remedial as the Rorschach-esque imagery within the music video.
"This was a song that just fell out of the sky fully formed. Sometimes when you are performing you get so high, it’s hard to know how to come down," Welch remarked of the track in a statement acquired by Billboard.
"There is this feeling of being cracked open, rushing endlessly outwards and upwards, and wanting somebody to hold you still, bring you back to yourself. It’s an incredible, celestial, but somehow lonely feeling.”
Directed by AG Roja, the band's monochromatic visualization shows the Camberwell-born musician in her natural climate — draped in agrarian threads, unburdened, always orbiting confessions into outer space. One after the other.
Old habits die hard, and we, her loyal listeners, fall prey to Welch's sorcery every time.
