The Nordic Center in Duluth is getting in the Christmas Spirit a month early as they prepare for the annual Pepperkakebyen, which is Norwegian for Gingerbread Town.

This tradition started in 2011 and over the weekend they held workshops to learn more about the actual Gingerbread City in Norway and helped with building gingerbread structures to get ready for the opening on Friday. In the past there have been gingerbread versions of the Aerial Lift Bridge and Glensheen Mansion.

The even will open up Friday night with the City of the North Parade as Mayor Don Ness will be opening up Gingerbread City with his family. The Nordic Center is located at 21 Lake Avenue and the city will be set up upstairs in Nortun Lounge/Sons of Norway. Let me know if you'll be checking out Gingerbread City this year in the comments below and what gingerbread structures you'll be expecting.
