The Minnesota fishing opener is this weekend, and you do need a license to do the majority of fishing in the state, but there are some places to fish without one.

Most Minnesota State Parks and recreation areas offer Minnesota residents the opportunity to do shore-fishing at most lakes within the state parks without the need for a license.

Other rules and regulations apply, such as the legal limit of fish that can be caught. Details, including a map showing where to find the free fishing opportunities, can be found online here.
