The Minnesota Department of Health would like people to know that there are early treatment options available for COVID-19 if you have mild to moderate symptoms. That's a positive sign as in the early months of the pandemic you were encouraged to stay home and practice self care unless you had severe symptoms, such as shortness of breath. Now, health officials say you should contact your health care provider to see your options.

The treatment available takes about two hours and can help boost your immune system to help you fight the illness and potentially keep you out of the hospital.

There are about 3700 health care sites across the country where FDA-authorized treatments are available. They encourage you to get tested for COVID-19 if you have any of the symptoms such as fever, dry cough, runny, nose, or loss of taste and smell.

The Minnesota Resource Allocation Platform is an option for people that can help connect patients and health care providers with medications that are in a limited supply. If medications are in low supply the online platform tool works like a lottery system to pass along their information to a health care provider. They make the final decision about which patients receive the medication. If medication is not in shortage, everyone's information gets passed along.

Vaccination efforts continue across the country. In the State of Minnesota there are 770,021 people with at least one dose of the vaccine as of February 22. 370,981 people have been completely vaccinated. You can learn more about the vaccine on the Minnesota Department of Health's website. If you would like to get vaccinated, you can contact your medical provider to see when you qualify.
