A win for Lake Superior is basically a win for Duluth, right? Lake Superior has to be the most popular lake in the country, with people coming to Duluth just to see it in all its glory.

We all know that it basically looks like an ocean and is the perfect backdrop to the city we love. Now, it also just scored a pretty incredible title.

There's a lot of lore around Lake Superior as well. Some people think there are UFOs at the bottom of the lake and it even has its own 'loch ness monster' type urban legend of sorts, which I really want to be true.

We may never know the truth on that one but we can celebrate this truth in the meantime: Lake Superior took the top spot in a brand new study that will make tourists and locals pretty happy.

New Study Names The Cleanest & Dirtiest Lakes In The U.S.

A new study just dropped, courtesy of Lake, a website where you can find lakeside destinations and places to stay. That's the perfect type of website for this type of study, no? It's perfect for those that want a nice little getaway with a view.

The study came out on Wednesday (August 13th) and it was great news for Lake Superior as it was named the cleanest lake in the entire country. That's really saying something so let's dive in, pun intended.

Lake Superior Named The Cleanest Lake In America

Lake.com says Lake Superior is the cleanest lake in America, which looked at the 100 largest lakes by surface area in the country. They looked at water quality statistics in each of these largest lakes to see how dirty they are.

From there, they looked at the concentration of certain things in each lake, including ammonia, lead and sulfate. From there, they were given a pollution score and ranked accordingly.

I won't get into the science of it all but once the pollution of each lake was measured and ranked, they got a score out of ten, with ten being the dirtiest. Lake Superior scored a zero, meaning it is as clean as can be. That's a win for us!
