Of all the nationwide lottery games, Powerball is one of the most popular, along with Mega Millions. The two games are nearly identical in popularity and frequently trade places for which one has the higher jackpot.

Powerball tickets are widely available in 45 states, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and it's always great when someone nearby scores a big win, and that's what happened last weekend in The Land of 10,000 Lakes.

On Saturday, October 25, the Powerball jackpot had reached an estimated $344 million. The winning numbers drawn on Saturday were 2, 12, 22, 39, and 67, and the Powerball number was 15.

To win $1 million, you'd need to match 5 of the 5 numbers, but not the Powerball number, meaning you're just one number away from scoring a massive $344 million payday, and a ticket purchased in a small Minnesota city did just that.

$1 Million Powerball Winner Reported In Minnesota

According to the Minnesota Lottery, the $1 million winning ticket was purchased in Sherburn, a southern Minnesota city with an estimated population of just over 1,000.

The lucky Powerball ticket was purchased at Casey's General Store, located at 502 N. Main Street.

As of October 28, the $1 million prize is being reported as unclaimed. Hopefully, the new millionaire realizes they have the winning ticket and claims their big payday soon. However, unless the winner decides to come forward publicly, we may never know who they are.

There are regulations to protect lottery winners who win over $10,000 because big-money winners can become targets for scammers and fraud, so the Minnesota Lottery will not divulge their name unless they first agree to it.

The next Powerball drawing will occur at 9:59 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29. The current estimated jackpot is $376 million, with a cash value of over $179.3 million, but those amounts can grow based on tickets sold before the drawing.
