Anglers Rejoice: Minnesota City Among Top Spots For Ice Fishing

Anglers everywhere are about to be thrilled! We just got some major kudos from a major publication and it all has to do with ice fishing. I know my husband will be excited about this one.

It's no secret that we have the great Lake Superior and so many other options when it comes to fishing or ice fishing in the Northland. It's part of why our region is such a draw these days and always has been.

Outside Magazine just named the seven best spots to ice fish in the entire country. The article urges people to visit the spots and try it out for themselves. The magazine covers all things sports, travel and outdoors culture.

So why is this such great news? Because out of all the places to ice fish, Duluth got a big moment to shine here. Let's dive in!

Duluth Named One Of The Top Places To Ice Fish In The U.S.

Go Duluth! This is pretty much expected, right? Outside Magazine didn't go into details on why Duluth is one of the best places to ice fish, but rather gives outsiders some inspiration on where the best places around the region are to fish and when.

The magazine talked to fishing guide and captain Jarrid Houston, who shares that the season usually lasts from Thanksgiving until late April or March. He also shared how he loves when he can get out of the ice shack and simply sit on a bucket on the ice. Only in Minnesota. Ha!

Green Bay also made the list, along with the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Cleveland, along with Burlington and Stowe in Vermont, also made the list. It makes sense but I would have never thought of the latter being some of the best spots to ice fish!

Rounding out the list is Laramie, located in Wyoming, and and southern Maine. It looks like we have some new places to add to our bucket list.
