I guess the rumors were true. Fox21's Dan Hanger reported on Sunday, April 23 that the last Grizzly's Restaurant in the Twin Ports has announced it will be closing. The Superior spot that has been around for 25 years will be closing and making way for a new eatery.

The current building is over 50 years old, and co-owner Rick Lampton says it's starting to fail structurally. Sometime this summer, the building will be demolished and a new restaurant will be built. Boulder Tap House will take its place. It's another franchise of the ownership group and they do have a Boulder Tap House in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about the new menu and new building at Boulder Tap House. I agree with the owners, it's time for a refresh. The menu looks good too with a lot of new options. I think it will be a nice change. Still, it's a little difficult seeing Grizzly's go away because I've had so many memories there.

Grizzly's was where I brought my wife on our first date.

January 2, 2009, was my first date with my wife. We actually went to the Grizzly's by the mall which closed a few years ago. Still, I remember knowing it was a good restaurant, with a safe bet that we both would enjoy something on the menu. The date went well, except we went to Benjamin Button afterward at the movies and it was not a great film.

Grizzly's is where my mom blurted out asking if I was going to marry my girlfriend.

It was my birthday a couple of years later and my girlfriend and I went out to lunch with my parents. The topic came up that Shawna (my girlfriend at the time), and I were going to be moving in with each other. My mom had a concerned look on her face and she asked me in front of my girlfriend, "Are you going to marry her?" That was an awkward lunch after that. Thankfully it all worked out and I proposed to her a year later. Thanks for that one, Mom!

The first place our kids went out to eat.

I'm pretty sure the first restaurant my kids will remember eating at was Grizzly's. I'll remember the kids' menu activities well.

Tic tac to, word search, and the maze kept me and the kids busy while we waited for our Bear Creek Pasta and Blackened Wings.

Grizzly's is where we would bring our kids out to eat after a big day at school.

A few years later, we were bringing our kids out to eat to celebrate big events. Like becoming a member of the sunshine committee at school. Sometimes it was the first and last day of school. This photo is from the first day of school in 2013.

I remember his first day of school. He was choked on the slide by some other kindergartner. He brushed it off, and I think the mini corn dogs, french fries, and ranch (with ketchup too), helped save the day.

The exact date of the closure hasn't been announced, but with construction season coming up, we should expect it to happen soon.
