
Man in His 40’s Shot and Killed After Interrupting Minneapolis Theft

Minneapolis, MN (MinnesotaNow)- A man in Minneapolis died after confronting a thief in a parking lot.

That’s according to a news release issued by the Minneapolis Police Department. Officers were called to the homicide shortly before 7:00 Thursday morning.
Police say the victim’s coworker found him suffering from a gunshot wound about 20 minutes after the victim was shot.

The reported deadly shooting occurred in the parking lot behind a business in the 2600 block of 32 Avenue S.
Preliminary information indicates the victim, described as a man in his 40’s, confronted a person seen trying to steal from an empty vehicle in the parking lot.
A struggle ensued and the theft suspect shot the victim around 6:30 a.m., the news release says.

Responding officers rendered aid to the victim but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is set to be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office upon completion of a preliminary autopsy.
Following the deadly shooting, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara urged anyone witnessing a crime in progress to call 911 saying no amount of property is worth a life and called the killing senseless and tragic.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones and his coworkers at this difficult time,” O’Hara said.
No arrest has been announced as of Friday morning.
