With the first trailer apparently days (or hours?) away, we’ve got the first look at the new Joker poster, featuring Joaquin Phoenix as the new Clown Prince of Crime.

Todd Phillips directed the movie, which also stars Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Bill Camp. Joker is reportedly an origin story, with Phoenix playing Arthur, a failed comedian who turns to crime and slowly becomes the Joker.

Here’s the first poster for the film:

It’s easy to be skeptical about a movie about the Joker with no Batman. How can you not be? But all of the images and footage for the film so far — and now this poster — all look pretty great. The way you can’t quite tell what is makeup and what is paint in this image is outstanding — and of course Joaquin Phoenix is basically the best living actor working today. The premise basically sounds like The King of Comedy, and De Niro himself is in the movie. Maybe Joker will be ... good?

Joker opens in theaters on October 4. The first footage from the film is supposed to debut today in Las Vegas at CinemaCon. Whenever the trailer hits the internet, we’ll bring it to you.
