Millie Bobby Brown Finds the ‘You’ Stalker Romantic and Fans Can’t Deal
Millie Bobby Brown is facing serious backlash after sharing her thoughts on Netflix's new series, You.
The Stranger Things star said on her Instagram Story that she didn't find the main character, a stalker, "creepy." Brown, 14, went on to say she thought he was romantic.
"He's not creepy, he's in love with her and it's okay," she said
The teen actress – who's grown up in a time when such romantic toxicity is glorified -- then clarified, telling fans she knew her view was going to be controversial. Brown urged fans to watch the show, seemingly suggesting they'd see it her way after.
"I know everybody's gonna say, 'oh he's a stalker why would you support that,' no he's in love with her. Just watch the show and don't judge me on my opinion," she added.
Not long after she shared her thoughts on the show, Brown was being criticized online. Some fans came to her defense, however, pointing out that she's perhaps just young and misguided.
"Sorry but the calling out and 'cancelling' of literal 14 year old millie bobby brown for having a naive and immature view on a tv show makes me uncomfortable. shes 14 you imbeciles what she needs is educating and time to grow," one fan wrote.
"millie bobby brown saying that the guy from 'you' is not a stalked and he's just in love with the female protagonist what's wrong with this kid," a critic said.
Another defender added, "Millie Bobby Brown's take on the stalker character from 'You' just goes to show how young and naive she is and how y'all need to stop treating her like she's a mature young adult when she's literally a 14 yr old kid smh."
The same fan added, "Also, Millie Bobby Brown should not be hanging around older me (i.e. Drake). So often are young girls manipulated by older men who tell them they're mature for their age in order to get close with them. We should be trying to protect these girls rather than bash on them."
Brown hasn't responded to the criticism. Her comments about the show came after star Penn Badgley shut down fans pining after his character.
In response to a fan who said, "the amount of people romanticizing @PennBadgley's character in YOU scares me," he said, "Ditto. It will be all the motivation I need for season 2."
