When it comes to fast food restaurants, there is no name more synonymous with the genre than McDonald's. The company has built an empire over the years that has over 13,000 US locations.

With a number like that, it's easy to understand why it seems like there's at least one in nearly every city.

In Minnesota alone, there are 203 McDonald's locations scattered around the state. Most of them are found in Minnesota's largest cities and towns, but some are in more rural areas.

Even though there are over 200 McDonald's locations in Minnesota, a surprisingly large number of Minnesota counties don't have a single Golden Arches at all.

Of Minnesota's 87 counties, 31% of them don't have a McDonald's within their borders. That's 27 Minnesota counties. While some of these counties don't surprise me, there are a number of them that do.

Compare that to the Minnesota counties with one stoplight, or none at all, and you'll find some crossover. It isn't by any means a full county-for-county match, but there are several that are on both lists.
