Every year, Newsweek compiles its prestigious "World's Best Hospitals" ranking. The 2025 list has just been released, and one Minnesota hospital stands prominently at the pinnacle.
Newsweek’s annual rankings consider over 2,400 hospitals globally, making assessments based on an extensive evaluation process. Rankings factor in expert opinions, patient experiences, hospital quality, and numerous other important indicators.

How Newsweek Ranked the World's Hospitals
By 2026, nearly 216,000 hospitals will exist worldwide, making it challenging to identify the best options. To simplify this, Newsweek and Statista have created a ranking that evaluates hospitals across 30 countries.
Newsweek's rankings result from an extensive evaluation process, which includes surveys from thousands of medical experts and detailed analysis of patient experiences, hospital quality, and various other metrics.
Mayo Clinic Named Best Hospital in the World
Minnesota’s renowned Mayo Clinic secured the coveted top spot globally, a remarkable achievement for the 136-year-old institution. Mayo Clinic was the only Minnesota hospital to be featured among the world’s top 250 hospitals.

Other Minnesota Hospitals Recognized Nationally
Several Minnesota hospitals made a strong showing on the national stage. CentraCare in St. Cloud was ranked 60th nationally, while M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis was ranked 70th, and Abbott Northwestern Hospital, also in Minneapolis, placed 105th.
Duluth Hospitals Missing from the Rankings
Though hospitals in Minnesota cities such as Albert Lee, Fergus Falls, and Crosby earned rankings, surprisingly, Duluth hospitals did not appear on Newsweek’s list this year.
