Minnesota State Fair Ticket Prices Take an Unexpected Turn
The Minnesota State Fair is still months away, but the ramp-up has already begun. A couple of Grandstand shows are already on the schedule, and a major announcement about 2026 ticket prices dropped this week, one that may come as a surprise to some fairgoers.
Why State Fair Ticket Prices Always Spark Debate
Ticket prices are always a hot topic of conversation. Consumers regularly complain that event tickets are getting too expensive, while event planners and promoters are constantly trying to balance rising costs with the need to improve the experience and keep people coming back year after year.

A Look Back at Minnesota State Fair Admission Prices
In 2005, an admission ticket to the Minnesota State Fair cost $9. By 2019, that price had climbed to $15. Last year, admission hit a new all-time high, jumping from $18 to $20, marking the largest single-year increase in the fair’s history.

There have been a few stretches when ticket prices stayed flat. Between 2014 and 2016, admission held steady at $13. Prices also paused between 2017 and 2018 at $14. From 2018 through 2025, prices increased in nearly every year, with two exceptions. There was no fair in 2020, and in 2024, fairgoers were given a break when prices did not rise.
2026 Ticket Prices Are Holding Steady
That pause is continuing into 2026. During the 167th annual meeting of the Minnesota State Agricultural Society board, the governing body of the Minnesota State Fair, members voted to keep both entry ticket prices and parking fees unchanged for the 2026 Great Minnesota Get-Together.
State Fair CEO Renee Alexander said, “Minnesotans care deeply about their State Fair, and our approach is to make smart investments that honor tradition, set the standard for high-value, high-quality experiences, and ensure the fair’s continued relevance and significance for generations.”
How to Save on State Fair Tickets
As always, planning ahead can help keep costs down. Pre-fair discounted tickets are on sale through August 26 for $17. At the gate, tickets will cost $20 for adults. Seniors and children ages 5 through 12 pay $18, while children 4 and under get in free.
With ticket prices holding steady for another year, fairgoers can focus less on sticker shock and more on counting down the days until corn dogs, Midway rides, and one of Minnesota’s most beloved end-of-summer traditions returns.
