Minnesota Zoo’s Valentine’s Day Fundraiser is Bugging People
We are a week away from Valentine's Day, and whether you're celebrating love or feeling a little anti-romance this year, the Minnesota Zoo has a unique gift idea that fits both moods.
Many zoos across the country use holidays to raise funds, and Minnesota's largest zoo is no exception. For Valentine’s Day, they’re offering a chance to give someone butterflies—or just plain bugs.

Name a Bug for Love or Revenge
Valentine’s Day is all about sweet treats, romantic gestures, and… bugs? Yep, you read that right! This year, the Minnesota Zoo is offering a quirky way to celebrate love—or settle a playful grudge.
For just $15, you can name a bug after someone special, whether it’s your sweetheart, your best friend, or that one coworker who never refills the coffee pot. And the best part? Your named creepy-crawly will become part of a balanced diet for the zoo’s animals.
How It Works
Make your submission by midnight on Valentine's Day, and the recipient will receive a personalized e-card informing them that a bug has been named in their honor.

The named bugs will then be fed to one of the many animals at the Minnesota Zoo, which could include opossums, turtles, chameleons, golden lion tamarins, and more.
A Fun and Charitable Gift
If you'd like to send a heartwarming, or slightly mischievous, bug as a Valentine's Day gift, visit the Minnesota Zoo Foundation's website to make your donation. You’ll also have the opportunity to include a personal note for the lucky recipient. Just keep in mind, this isn’t an anonymous gift, so choose your bug’s namesake wisely!
