Minnesota Has Two of the Best Fish Fries in the Entire Country
Lent season is almost here, which means it’s time for one of the best food traditions of the year - Friday night fish fries!
There’s nothing like a crispy, golden piece of fish with a huge side of tartar and fries to wrap up the week just right. And if you love a good fish fry, you’re in luck - Minnesota has some of the best in the entire country.
Mashed.com released their list of the Best Fish Fries in America, and two Minnesota restaurants made the cut! That’s right - while we may not have an ocean nearby, we sure know how to serve up some top-tier fish.

Minnesota Has Two of the Best Fish Fries in the Entire Country:
First up is Urban Growler in St. Paul, Minnesota’s first woman-owned microbrewery.
Every Friday, they serve up panko-breaded walleye with coleslaw, pumpernickel rye bread, and your choice of fries, tots, veggies, or tortilla chips. And, of course, it pairs perfectly with one of their locally brewed beers.
We happened upon the Friday walleye and were blown away by the entire experience. Service was great and the walleye was cooked to juicy perfection. Reminded me of dishes I had when living in Japan. The panko crust was crispy and light. My son is in town so we’re taking him this Friday. Can’t wait!! - Jean on Google Reviews
I did a little digging, and one of the owners is actually a Wisconsin native. On their website, she says, "You can take the girl out of Wisconsin, but you can't take the desire for a fish fry out of the girl. Hence, our Friday night fish frys."
But heads up - this one sells out fast, so if you want in, don’t wait too long!

The second Minnesota spot in the spotlight is Tipsy Steer, serving up delicious, locally sourced comfort food at three locations across the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
Every Friday during Lent, they dish out their drool-worthy lightly breaded walleye fish fry special. Lent starts March 5th and ends April 17th this year.
But don’t worry - some local lake favorites stick around all year - the sunnies and chips served crispy with fries and coleslaw!
Tipsy Steer has it all! My family got a variety of things, but I had the sunnies. Wow they were so delicious. One of the best I have had in a long time. Overall, this place is cool, open, and has a great welcoming environment. The food and drinks are great. I can't think of one bad thing to say. Great restaurant! I can't wait to come back! - Paige on Yelp
