A St. Paul-based company that produces ready-to-eat salads is recalling approximately 136 pounds of their product due to mis-branding and the potential for undeclared allergens.  J&J Distributing's Kowalski's Market Sicilian Chopped and Kowalski's Market Italian Steakhouse Cobb salads are affected by the recall efforts.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, both of the ready-to-eat salad products contain pine nuts - a common food ingredient.  However, the ingredient isn't listed on the label, and that poses a potential problem for people who are allergic to them.

Routine inspections turned up the potential problem.

The Kowalski's Market salad products included in the recall bear the establishment number "EST. 38450" and have "sell by" stickers with dates between 12/27 and 1/02 inclusive. View labels by clicking here.

While there have been no medical issues associated with the salads, officials are concerned about the potential for allergic reactions to the pine nuts.  People who have questions are directed to contact Ron Carkoski - CEO of J&J Distributing:  651-292-3822 or call the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline:  1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854).
