Here Are The Most Popular Car Brands in Minnesota
Minnesotans may be known for our 'Minnesota Nice,' but when it comes to cars, we have some surprisingly strong opinions. And we now know just which brand of vehicle Minnesotans liked the most in 2024.
After a big increase in 2023, sales of new vehicles across the country in 2024 were still up, but at a more modest 2.2 percent in 2024, according to this Reuters story. Still, sales of new vehicles finished at 15.9 million last year, Reuters noted, making it the highest since 2019. And, Reuters also said that automakers are projecting strong sales will continue into 2025, as well.
Meanwhile, here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, those numbers were a bit more mixed. In fact, the Minnesota Auto Dealers Association (MADA) said that sales of new vehicles were just under 188,100 in 2024, virtually the same figure as in 2023.

However, MADA did note that new car sales were up in Minnesota over 5.5 percent during November and December of last year, with sales hitting just over 35,500 in 2024 compared to just over 33,600 during those two months in 2023.
Either way, though, that's still a lot of new vehicles appearing in driveways and garages here in the Bold North and across the country. But just WHICH brand of vehicles is the most popular? Well, we now know the answer, again, courtesy of the latest MADA 2024 sales figures released recently.

And, the number-one, best-selling vehicle brand in Minnesota in 2024 was... Chevrolet! Chevy products accounted for 14.3 percent of all new vehicle registrations in the North Star State in 2024, down from 15.3 in 2023, MADA noted.
In second place, is Ford, which commanded 12.7 percent of all new vehicle registrations in Minnesota last year, up from 12.1 in 2023 MADA said.
Third place went to Toyota, whose automobiles grabbed 10.7 percent of all new vehicle registrations in the Bold North in 2024, up from 10.2 in 2023, according to MADA.
Fourth place was taken by Honda, with a 9.7 percent share of all new vehicle registrations in 2024 in Minnesota, up from 8.6 in 2023, MADA said.
And rounding out the top five most popular automobile brands in Minnesota in 2023 was Suburu, with 6.8 percent of all 2024 new vehicle registrations, up slightly from 6.7 percent in 2023, according to MADA.
