How Nick Cooper Is Helping a Major Medical Research Program

I'm joining one of the biggest medical research programs ever — and so can you!

Our very own Essentia Health, right here in the Twin Ports, is one of a select number of hospitals around the country participating in the All of Us Research Program. The program is gathering lifestyle, environmental, and genetic information from people of every background, upbringing, and lifestyle. The goal is to develop disease prevention and treatment tactics tailored for individuals, rather than a one-size fits all method.

To participate, you must be at least 18 years old, not incarcerated and able to provide legal consent.

Getting started is easy: You check out this website and create an account with your email address or phone number. Then you complete the consent process and surveys, which take about 50 minutes. Then you have an in-person visit to collect blood and urine samples and have your physical measurements taken, which takes about 30 minutes. After the in-person visit, you receive a $25 gift card.

This program is vastly different than medical studies you hear about all the time. I see it as an incredible opportunity for us as a society to work together for a healthier future for our loved ones, friends and neighbors – as well as future generations.

It’s really an opportunity to play a role in supporting healthy activity in my family, our community, and, really the whole country. I'm excited I got to be a part of it!
