“Hat Trick” Night For Minnesota Officer Ends In Three DUI Arrests
One night, three arrests, and a whole lot of bad decisions behind the wheel. One Minnesota officer had a night to remember, taking three suspected impaired drivers off the road before they could hurt themselves or anyone else.
One Busy Night for a Minnesota Officer
The Roseville Police Department shared a story about one of its officers earning what they called a “hat trick” in a single shift. For those unfamiliar, that’s a hockey term for scoring three goals in one game, and while no sticks were used here, this officer certainly racked up some points for public safety.

Officer Ellies, complete with a full head of hockey hair, had a busy night. The first stop involved a crash in a hotel parking lot. The driver blew over the legal limit and was taken to the hospital.

The second involved a vehicle swerving between lanes on a busy roadway, that driver also tested over the limit and was sent to jail.
And just when it looked like his night might finally slow down, Ellies clocked a vehicle going more than 100 MPH on Highway 36. That driver refused chemical testing and was also booked.
Roseville PD Praises the Effort
The Roseville Police Department called it an unusual kind of achievement, saying, “While it’s not the kind of hat trick we cheer for, we’re proud of Officer Ellies’ proactive work keeping our roads safe and removing impaired drivers from our community.”
