Looking For An Unbelievably Good Breakfast With A Morning Cocktail? This Is Your Spot!
Earlier this summer, I was down in the Twin Cities and in need of a delicious breakfast. I was staying in the Bloomington area, and just did a quick web search for nearby breakfast spots that weren't chain places.
Whenever I am visiting a different area, I always like to try new places I can't get when I am home. That said, I skipped on the chain places and opted for a local spot. Just like at home, those tend to be fun anyway.
I didn't take a look at the menu or anything, just rolling the dice. So off we went to this little place, not knowing what we were in for.
Visiting Perk Up Kitchen in Bloomington
When we arrived, this little place was busy, which seemed like a good sign. It must be good, right? We jumped on the wait list and walked around the neighborhood, grabbing a coffee at the nearby Mugshots Coffee Company. Clever name. Good coffee. I'd recommend it, but that's not what this article is about.

Once our table was ready after a short wait, we made our way back and got settled in. The place is pretty cute inside! It's bright, kind of "modern Grandma's house" energy. The host and wait staff were all super friendly, and so the first impressions were all great!
Imaginative brunch-themed cocktails at Perk Up Kitchen
While ordering, we noticed that there is a bar (seen above) and some creative breakfast-themed cocktails on the menu. I ordered a Cold Brew Old Fashioned, and my breakfast partner got a "Garden Mule".

The Garden Mule uses vodka, cucumber, blueberry, mint, lime, and a splash of ginger beer for a summery beverage that was refreshing.
My Cold Brew Old Fashioned (seen on the right) was something I ordered largely out of curiosity, but it was amazing. They use Bulleit Rye Bourbon, 5 Espresso Liqueur, cold brew coffee, maple syrup, and bitters. Maple syrup and coffee might sound kind of weird in a cocktail with bourbon, but they all came together in a phenomenal bruchy package.
They also have drinks like espresso martinis, bloody marys, mimosas, and some other craft cocktails made at their bar.
Breakfast or brunch? This food won't disappoint!
Perk Up Kitchen serves breakfast/brunch and also has a lunch menu (served after 11 am). We ate shortly before noon, so I got to glance around and see some of the menu items as people were getting them, and everything looked great!
Huge pancakes, chicken and waffles, "Sunday in Italy" frittatas, and even breakfast poutine (which looked phenomenal) were some of the things I saw off their menu, but I opted for something different.
I'm a sucker for a good breakfast burrito. I've raved about a few great ones in the past. So that's what I ordered to give it a try. They call theirs the "Perkarito", and it includes eggs, sausage, cheddar cheese, potatoes, onion, red pepper, chives, and jalapeño vinaigrette in a tomato tortilla. It comes with tortilla chips, sour cream, and salsa as a side.
The flavor was bold and memorable, and the touch of chips and salsa with a breakfast dish was a nice touch that was delicious. It stands out as one of the best breakfast burritos I can remember having in recent years for sure!
My breakfast partner got the breakfast skillet with avocado added on top. The dish is made up of breakfast potatoes, sausage, scrambled eggs, roasted red peppers, onions, and cheddar cheese, and comes with toast. I didn't try any of it, but she said it was top-notch!
Where is this place? When are they open?
Perk Up Kitchen is right on the corner of France Avenue and Old Shakopee Road in Bloomington. They're open from 7 am to 3 pm daily, with breakfast served all day and lunch available starting at 11 am.
