After more than 30 years in Minneapolis, the notorious adult shop SexWorld closed last year. Almost a year after that closure, there's a chance for you to own some "memorabilia" from the business.

The shop, located just a few blocks away from Target Center, right in the heart of Downtown Minneapolis's North Loop Warehouse District, had been open 24/7 since opening in 1993. It was announced last year that the shop would be closing in mid-2025.

As the business met struggles, it moved away from that 24/7 "always open" business model to more limited hours toward the end of its run. A variety of other tactics were also used in the final few years of operation to keep the Twin Cities business afloat.

An example - The COVID Pandemic hit a lot of businesses hard, and SexWorld was one of the many businesses that felt significant impacts. As we previously shared, they added an "essentials" section to their store to try to remain open as an "essential business" during closures and other restrictions during the pandemic.

In the end, the various efforts failed to do enough to keep the business going. They ultimately closed on June 29, 2025.

As we approach the one-year anniversary of their closure, an auction is being held for interested parties to pick up what the auction describes, among other things, as "memorabilia, vintage finds, art, and historic items". They say it gives the public a chance to "own a piece of Minneapolis history".

Dozens of items are up for bid, ranging from signs to statues, clothing to merchandise display stands, and even one of those "wacky inflatable blow-up guys" you see outside of car dealerships and such.

All of the items are available to bid on until the auction closes on Thursday evening. There is no single closing time. Rather, different items have various end times, all wrapping up by the end of Thursday night.

Pickup for any items won in bidding is Sunday, April 12, from 9 am to 6 pm. They warn that any items not picked up after that will be considered abandoned, with no exceptions. They also recommend you bring help for loading anything you can't handle yourself, as there will be no help for large or heavy items.

Here are some of the quirkiest or most standout items from this auction. You can see the entire list of items for sale (and make a bid, if you want) here.
