SCHEELS Minnesota Expansion Continues With New Location
Minnesotans love their sports, indoors and out, and the number of sporting goods stores across the state proves it. One chain in particular is steadily growing its footprint in Minnesota, with its sixth location now in the works.
With so many stores offering similar gear, the real challenge is creating a full experience, not just a shopping trip. That’s where this store stands out from the pack.
SCHEELS Expanding Again With Massive New Minnesota Location
Stores like Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, and REI often feature unique attractions, from aquariums to climbing walls. But SCHEELS takes it to another level, offering much more than just sporting goods.

SCHEELS just announced plans for its 37th store, and sixth in Minnesota, coming to Blaine. At 250,000 square feet, this will be only the second SCHEELS in the Twin Cities area, joining locations in St. Cloud, Mankato, Rochester, and Moorhead.

SCHEELS Announces New Mega-Store in Blaine
Though it’s now headquartered in Fargo, SCHEELS has deep roots in Minnesota. It began in 1902 as a small hardware store in Sabin, founded by Frederick A. Scheel. Once sporting goods were added, the store’s future direction was clear.
Today, it’s come a long way from its humble beginnings. The Blaine store will feature 80 specialty shops, a Ferris wheel, a 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium with over 600 fish, and a candy shop for visitors of all ages.
The Blaine SCHEELS is expected to open in spring 2028 and will employ 500 people. The company is 100% employee-owned and now has locations in more than a dozen states, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Iowa, Montana, and beyond.
