SCHEELS Announces New Mega-Store in Blaine

Though it’s now headquartered in Fargo, SCHEELS has deep roots in Minnesota. It began in 1902 as a small hardware store in Sabin, founded by Frederick A. Scheel. Once sporting goods were added, the store’s future direction was clear.

Today, it’s come a long way from its humble beginnings. The Blaine store will feature 80 specialty shops, a Ferris wheel, a 16,000-gallon saltwater aquarium with over 600 fish, and a candy shop for visitors of all ages.

The Blaine SCHEELS is expected to open in spring 2028 and will employ 500 people. The company is 100% employee-owned and now has locations in more than a dozen states, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Iowa, Montana, and beyond.
