The state of Minnesota will have a new state flag by the end of 2023, and yesterday was a big day in that process as the top 6 flag designs were chosen.

The State Emblems Redesign Commission is tasked with Developing and adopting a new design for the official state flag and the official state seal no later than January 1, 2024. All submissions were due by October 30th, according to the commission, "More than 2,600 designs were submitted for the new Minnesota state flag and seal during the public submission period."

Several hours were spent yesterday listening to experts and the public about the submitted designs before narrowing the list down to the top 6 designs, and if I'm being honest, I'm not a big fan of any of them.

All the designs are very similar, they all feature some sort of representation of a north star and many have the same colors being used, green for forests and blue for water. Most of the designs are very boring, but I get it, this flag has to last for years and not be too "outside of the box."

Minnesota Historical Society is providing administrative support for the State Emblems Redesign Commission as they reach the end of the process, the commission meets every Tuesday from 9 AM - 10:30 AM, if you want to get updates on the process and see all the designs submitted, you can visit the official website here.
