Shirley MacLaine Headed to the North Pole for Anna Kendrick’s Female Santa Claus Movie
Shirley MacLaine has joined Anna Kendrick’s female Santa Claus movie — by the way, Anna Kendrick is making a female Santa Claus movie!
Anna Kendrick will star in Disney’s new holiday family film Nicole, also featuring Billy Eichner and Bill Hader. MacLaine will play Elf Polly, one of Santa’s helpers who helped raise Nicole when she was a baby. The plot, per The Hollywood Reporter:
Nicole centers on Santa’s daughter, who is forced to take over the family business after her father retires and her brother gets cold feet about his first Christmas Eve flight.
Sounds a whole lot like an Elf situation, and it’s definitely not the first Santa-Claus-surrogate-is-reluctant-to-be-Santa-Claus movie ever made. But a female take on Santa Claus could be super fun, especially with Anna Kendrick in the lead. Hader will be playing the cold-footed brother, but Eichner’s role is unknown. Nicole isn’t related in any way to Disney’s The Santa Clause series, though this is far from the last Saint Nick-themed movie the studio will make. (Disney also has Kevin Hart’s Dashing Through the Snow coming out soon.)
Nicole is directed and scripted by Miss Congeniality’s Marc Lawrence, and hits theaters November 8, 2019.
