National Retailer Preparing To Open First Minnesota Store Outside Of The Twin Cities

A national retail brand is preparing to open its 6th store in Minnesota, which will also be its first in the state located outside of the Twin Cities area.

While you can already purchase some Skechers shoes at a number of footwear retailers, a standalone Skechers store is preparing to open in the Duluth area soon.

Other dedicated Skechers store locations in Minnesota are in Bloomington, Coon Rapids, Albertville, Eagan, and Woodbury.

Here's what to know about the new retail offering coming to the Twin Ports area.

What's different about a dedicated Skechers store?

When you go to most retailers where you can get Skechers shoes, you'll find a handful of options in men's, women's, and kid's sizes. When visiting one of the three types of dedicated Skechers retail stores, they obviously carry a huge selection of different types of footwear the company makes.

This provides the option to see in person and try on the various athletic, casual, and work footwear the company offers on a much larger scale than the handful of offerings you can get at other shoe stores.

Where will this new Skechers store be opening?

After David's Bridal closed last year, this left a vacancy in the Burning Tree Plaza near Best Buy for a new business to move in. The 9,040-square-foot property in Suite 100 at 5115 Burning Tree Road didn't stay empty very long, however.

Signage recently popped up in the windows of the building, with banners hanging along the roofline declaring Skechers will be coming soon.

There are two signs in the windows. One of the signs declares they are hiring for the new location, with current job listings on the Skechers website as of June 27 only being for a pair of assistant managers - one full-time, and one part-time.

The other sign encourages people to text a shortcode to get on a contact list to be alerted when the store will open.

When will the new Skechers store open?

While the banners on the building say "opening soon", the opening of the store probably isn't imminent in the next couple of weeks.

While there are job listings for a pair of assistant managers, there are no listings for any lower-level associate jobs at the store quite yet. This will probably be coming soon, perhaps after hiring those assistant managers.

A listing found for the store manager role (which is no longer listed as an open job) shares that the store plans to open this summer.

That said, "soon" could mean maybe the end of July or August if they still follow the summer opening timeline.
