The DECC Is Teasing Something Very…Pink? Here’s What It Could Be

The Duluth Entertainment Convention Center has been busy rolling out a series of new concerts, comedians, and events for the public to check out in Duluth this year.

Some of the recent announcements coming to the Twin Ports include Taco Fest, musician Ben Folds, comedian Chris Delia, the band Barenaked Ladies, and the dinosaur event Jurassic Quest.

Sometimes before an announcement, the DECC will do some kind of a "tease" as to some new event or performer on social media, giving their followers online the opportunity to guess who or what will be announced before they drop the news.

Monday night, the DECC did just that once again. Only this time, it is very vague. Or is it? The post only has the words "Announcement coming soon..." and the attached image is a solid pink block. Like, Barbie style pink. Is that what it is? Some kind of Barbie event?

What could they be teasing?

My personal guess is that it might be something tied to Barbie. Some sort of a "Barbie on Ice" kind of thing or some kind of touring Barbie attraction, convention, or memorabilia thing. Or maybe it's 1990's band Aqua, best known for their 1997 song "Barbie Girl", doing a show at DECC Symphony Hall.

My best guess is this, though. There's a "Barbie The Movie: In Concert" tour this summer, making stops all over the country. There are no announced stops in Minnesota, and only one in Wisconsin, in Milwaukee in July. That seems like the most likely thing to me.

The tour brands itself as a "one-of-a-kind immersive experience, featuring specialty limited-edition merchandise, photo opportunities, VIP experiences, and more!" It includes a live all-women orchestra playing along to the full-length feature film.

But then again, maybe it has nothing to do with Barbie at all.

Another thing you could argue would be an obvious answer is the singer P!nk is coming to Duluth. While this would be a HUGE get for the DECC, she's been in Minnesota quite a bit in recent years, and is coming back to the Xcel Energy Center for two shows in October. I'd kind of doubt she'd also book a show in Duluth, as awesome as that would be for fans of hers in the Northland.

Some of the guesses on the DECC Facebook page have made guesses that include the aforementioned P!nk, Nicki Minaj, or something Barbie-related.

Other joking answers from followers include that the DECC "switched to T-Mobile", that they're trying to trick everyone into thinking it's P!nk only to have it be Blue Man Group or JoJo Siwa.

It looks like we won't have to wait too long to find out. The DECC does say they'll be sharing more "very soon", and if I had to guess, that means we'll know more in the next day or two. Stay tuned.
