As winter approaches in the Northland, snow removal will become a regular occurrence.  However, that task can be extremely challenging for some residents.

The good news is that help will be available for many through the City of Duluth's Snow Removal Assistance Program, which is back for the second year in a row.

According to the City, the program will connect qualifying residents with those who can help throughout the winter months.  Eligible residents must reside in Duluth, be over 60, have a disability, or not have the financial resources to pay for a service.

However, there is a capacity limit of 25 participants and they will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis.  City staff will then match those in the program with snow removal services, which will take place within 24 hours after two or more inches of snow has fallen, and the snow has stopped.

 

“Last year’s program was a great success,” said Human Rights Officer Carl Crawford. “The burden that this lifts off of residents who needed this service was incredible to see. We hope that the program has that same positive impact again this year.”

The City also needs volunteers to join the program and help remove snow.  You can click here to get more information and sign up to help.  You must be at least 16 years old, or work under direct adult supervision if younger, and be available to remove snow promptly throughout the winter.
