Terminator 6 is no more. Henceforth, the official title (at least according to TheWrap) shall be Terminator: Dark Fate.

The new film, which does indeed feature Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Terminator — and Linda Hamilton, returning as Sarah Connor for the first time since Terminator 2: Judgment Day — is also notable for James Cameron’s increased involvement in the storyline. Cameron, like Hamilton, has basically been uninvolved since the early 90s:

While the plot for the film is unknown, Cameron has promised that it will have a sense of closure to it and align more closely with the events of the second film, as opposed to the subsequent sequels.

The phrase “dark fate” is a reference to the earlier films, particular T2, in which the characters repeatedly talked about the notion of there being “no fate but what we make for ourselves.” Sarah Connor was particularly consumed with this idea, and in trying to prevent the future of the Terminators from coming to pass.

I’m generally not a fan of selective sequels (and unlike most people, I am a fan of both Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator: Genisys) so I’m less enthusiastic about the idea of just ignoring some of the movies. On the other hand, Cameron and Hamilton’s involvement — and Arnold’s, of course — is all very good news for the franchise.

Per TheWrap, Terminator: Dark Fate also has an official release date. Look for it in theaters on November 1.
