The Major League Baseball season is here...many major league baseball teams have opened training camps, as pitcher and catchers report to spring training in Florida and Arizona.

Former Duluth Huskies Manager Terry Collins is still the manager with the New York Mets again this year.  They have started camp in Florida.

The Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers pitchers and catchers report Tuesday to spring training.

Grandmas Marathon has started taking registration for the 2013 Garry Bjorklund Half-Marathon.

Registration is conducted online through February 22nd, in which 6,300 participants will be randomly selected from all of the entrants.

Registrations can be submitted anytime during the 12–day registration period at GrandmasMarathon.com. During the week of Feb. 25, everyone who signed up for the lottery will receive an email stating whether or not they were selected. The entry fee is $80, plus processing charge.

The race is set for Saturday, June 22, at 6:45 a.m., and is run on the second half of the Grandma's Marathon course.

A.D. Wanted

UMD has officially started their search to replace former Athletic Director Bob Nielson, who departed for Western Illinois to coach college football.

Professor Vince Magnuson, former Vice-Chancellor for Academic Administration at UMD, will be chairman of a search committee composed of student athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, and alumni..

Former Women’s Basketball Head Coach, Karen Stromme is the Interim Athletic Director and has said she is interested in the position.  She was the Assistant Athletic Director for Nielson when he was the A.D.

Stromme coached UMD basketball since the early 1990’s and wants to get the job.

Stromme said, “In the long run when you have a national search I’m just going to throw my hat in the ring if you will and there are a lot of thing I can bring.”

UMD Chancellor Dr. Lendley Black said, “I’ve been told it’s a six to eight week process and I’m optimistic that by the end of the spring that we will have a new athletic director in place.”

College Hockey outdoors over the weekend, as Nebraska–Omaha and North Dakota played at the home of the college baseball World Series stadium in Nebraska, Omaha.

North Dakota and the UNO-Mavericks played at T.D. Ameritrade Park.

North Dakota won the game by a 5–2 score. Over 13,600 fans attended the outdoor game on Saturday night.
