While Split Rock Lighthouse tends to get all of the attention, Minnesota has a few other lighthouses. One not too far south of Split Rock is getting ready to relight their beacon for the first time in several years as part of a big celebration.

The Two Harbors Lighthouse, located on the point that separates Agate Bay from Burlington Bay, is preparing to relight its beacon for the first time since 2019 as part of a community event at the beginning of July.

The lighthouse's beacon failed in November of 2019 in such a way that it couldn't be repaired. Through fundraising efforts and grants sought by the Lake County Historical Society, they were able to raise the $70,000 necessary to replace the failed beacon with a new rotational LED beacon.

Now that the work has been done to install the new, modernized beacon, it's just about time to relight it!

The Lake County Historical Society will be holding a centennial celebration on July 4th to celebrate 100 years of the organization, with the lighthouse being one of the centerpieces of the festivities.

The day's events include tours of both the Two Harbors Lighthouse and the Two Harbors Depot, as well as live music, opportunities to explore local history, an art exhibit celebrating the area, and the lighting ceremony.
