The University of Minnesota-Duluth women's hockey team is returning to the Frozen Four, marking the second straight appearance for the Bulldogs to the big stage.

UMD defeated Harvard 4-0 in the opening round of the tournament last week, advancing to play the #2 seed Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday for a chance to head to the 2022 Frozen Four.

In the weekend's game against the in-state rivals, the Bulldogs overcame an early 1-0 lead, going on to score a goal in the second and third periods of the game while stifling the Gophers offense to win 2-1.

The win over the Gophers sends UMD back to the Frozen Four for the second straight year, and 9th time in team history.

To get fans excited, the UMD Bulldogs media team created this hype video.

The Bulldogs' first opponent in the 2022 Frozen Four is the same team UMD met last year in the 2021 Frozen Four. In last year game, UMD fell to top-seeded Northeastern University in a 3-2 game.

This year, unseeded UMD faces a #3 seeded Northeastern team with some momentum after an exciting win over the Gophers. If UMD wins against Northeastern, they will face off against the winner of the other Frozen Four semifinal game between top-seeded Ohio State and #5 Yale.

The Bulldogs are in search of the school's 6th national title for the women's program. UMD currently has the third most NCAA Women's Hockey championships in Division I Women's collegiate hockey, just behind the Gophers and Wisconsin Badgers, who are each tied for most championship wins with 6 each.

If you're looking to follow the action, you'll be able to watch the UMD-Northeastern game at 2:30 pm on Friday, March 18 on ESPN+, ESPN's streaming platform. The other Frozen Four semifinal game between Ohio State and Yale will also be on ESPN+, starting at 6 pm.

The championship game will be on Sunday, March 20 at 3 pm on ESPNU.
