As soon as I type the name of this nasty bug, my skin is going to feel like it is crawling.  I'm not talking about bed bugs...although those are disgusting too!  I'm talking about ticks.

If you want to keep the bed bugs away, stay away from Chicago.  Orkin just named that city the worst for those creepy crawly animals that are hiding under hotel mattresses.  If you want to stay away from ticks, though, you are going to have to work a bit harder to keep them off your body. I'll explain...

Urgent Tick Bite Warning Issued For The United States, Including Minnesota and Wisconsin

One of my least favorite animals is ticks!  Anything that sucks blood for fun is a big "no" for me.  The fact that they can stay on your skin, sucking your blood out for hours or days, is just disgusting.  Add in the fact that they could carry Lyme Disease and cause a series of health issues makes me feel like I need to keep one eye open all of the time.

They are creepy, crawly and unfortunately are so stealth-like that you don't even know they are on your body sucking your blood. Ticks. Here are a few different types of ticks in Minnesota and a few tips on how you can help prevent tick bites.

We all need to keep spraying that bug spray and tucking our pants into our socks because I saw a new warning about ticks the other day that shocked me.  Not sure why this isn't being shared more, but I wanted to ensure that you saw this latest warning from the CDC that was mentioned on weather.com:

Tick bites are sending more people to emergency rooms this July than any summer since 2017, according to new CDC data. Experts warn that thanks to shifting weather patterns and rising urban infestations, even city parks and sidewalks might not be safe from these disease-carrying pests.

While you keep your eyes open for ticks and that classic bullseye symptom related to Lyme Disease, there is one more word you should familiarize yourself with - Powassan.  Minnesota is now also leading the pack for cases of Powassan Virus, which can be deadly.
